Tulsa SPCA Started October With 63 Adoptions
Five days produced an encouraging number. The next adoption still comes down to finding the right match.

October was only five days old when Tulsa SPCA shared a number worth noticing: 63 adoptions.

The shelter reported the total in its October 5 update.

Sixty-three makes for a good headline. But every number in it eventually came down to something much smaller: one animal, one person or family, and a decision about whether life together made sense.

That is also where the Story becomes useful for someone considering adoption now.

Tulsa SPCA’s adoption process starts online, where prospective adopters can browse the animals currently available and submit an application through an animal’s profile.

Then comes the part a photograph cannot settle.

Does this particular dog fit the rhythm of your household? Is this cat comfortable with what home looks like for you? What kind of energy, attention and routine can you realistically provide after the excitement of bringing someone new home wears off?

Tulsa SPCA’s staff helps with that conversation.

Its adoption FAQ explains that visitors do not simply walk through the dog housing areas. Staff members introduce prospective adopters to dogs they are interested in meeting and can help match people based on personality, energy level and lifestyle.

Animals staying in foster homes require an appointment.

There is another reason to check the current listings rather than getting too attached to yesterday’s picture: Tulsa SPCA operates on a first-come, first-served basis. An approved application by itself does not reserve an animal.

That is an important detail when adoption stories are moving quickly.

The 63 adoptions Tulsa SPCA reported from October 1 through October 5 are already part of the month’s Story. They do not tell us which animal will still be waiting when the next person starts looking.

For that, the useful number is one.

One animal whose personality fits one household well enough for both of their lives to change.
